IT Tralee earns top honours for disabled sports
The Institute of Technology in Tralee has been recognised by the United Nations organisation for Education, Science and Culture as a centre of excellence in providing access to sport for people with disabilities.
IT Tralee has been appointed to the UNESCO chair for excellence in adapted physical activity (APA), only the second third- level institution in Ireland to achieve the standard. The award recognises its inclusion of people with disabilities into its physical education, sport, fitness and recreation courses.
IT Tralee president, Dr Oliver Murphy, said the award endorsed the college as it embarked on its plans to build a centre for universal inclusive sport, health and leisure education.
