Research, Development and Innovation at the Institutes of Technology

The Institutes of Technology have a long track record of delivering research, development, innovation and enterprise solutions to industry, ranging from multi-national companies to locally-based SMEs. With significant expertise built up around internationally recognized research centres and initiatives, all aligned with national priority areas, we have a platform to deliver real change and impact for key sectors of the Irish economy. Specific collaborative research projects and activities with industry have been funded via schemes such as Enterprise Ireland Innovation Vouchers and Partnerships, Science Foundation Ireland TIDA grants and EU Horizon2020 and Interreg supports, while a significant base of privately contracted research work has been built up from the specialist research expertise available within the Institutes. The excellent researchers which characterise the specialist centres and groups have a long track record of securing postgraduate and postdoctorate support for research, including the Irish Research Council, SFI, Marie Sklodowska-Curie and ERC awards. Our work to stimulate innovation across enterprises also includes Incubation Centres available across all Institutes, the New Frontiers programme which supports new start-ups and the 15 Technology Gateways which provide specialist focused RDI support directly to industry.
