ITT/KTP Connect Programmes

The Kerry Technology Park (KTP), an initiative of Shannon Development in partnership with the Institute of Technology, Tralee (ITT), aims to position North Kerry as a leading investment location in Ireland. The park offers worldclass infrastructure and facilities to attract overseas and indigenous technologybased companies serving the rapidly expanding information/digital age markets.

Kerry Technology Park shares a location with ITT and research partnerships between the Institute and resident companies are actively encouraged. It is anticipated that the close relationship between the Institute and the park will stimulate entrepreneurship in the Kerry area.

In 2011, ITT is partnering with the Kerry Technology Park on an innovative new programme, ITT/KTP Connect, during which, third year students on the Institute’s programmes in Interactive Multimedia, Music Technology and TV Radio and New Media Broadcasting assume the role of Media Consultants for companies within the Park. This model of student  placements differs from the traditional model in that the students will work as an autonomous group, providing a range of media and creative services to a suite of companies, as opposed to an individual student working with a single company. Organisations who are working with the college on this programme include: Assess Ireland Ltd, Altobridge, Continuum Commerce Solutions, DCS Energy Savings, Donseed Ltd, Neotech Software Solutions Ltd, PulseLearning, Unique Voice (UVLI), YouComply and Neustock Media.

The student projects conducted during this programme will include the development and production of on-line promotional material, through the use of media tools such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, production of multimedia demonstrations of company products and website design and development.

The companies will benefit from the skills-set that the students have acquired during their academic studies. The companies will also be able to leverage the resources and facilities of the ITT Digital Media Centre which include a digital video editing suite, radio studio, recording studio, TV studio and a music technology lab.

During these work-placements the students will gain a valuable insight to the dynamics of the multi-media sector. This experience will greatly enhance the students’ employment prospects on graduation. The programme further enhances the ongoing collaboration between ITT - Kerry Technology Park and the Park companies.

Testimonials

“This is one of a number of initiatives currently underway to further strengthen links between ITT and Park companies. The companies at the Park, along with the various people and departments at the Institute work regularly on a collaborative basis. ITT/KTP Connect further enhances this process, while providing students with a valuable insight to the dynamics of the multi-media sector. These work-placements will greatly enhance the students’ employment prospects on graduation.”
Marie Lynch - Manager of Kerry, Technology Park

“The ITT/ KTP Connect Programmes offers a perfect balance in blending the world of education and technology with the reality of real-life business experience. It is anticipated that this will be a highly successful programme and will prove beneficial to both the ITT work placement students and the participating Park companies The students benefit from the new model by learning valuable skills in time and resource management, effective communication with clients and the dynamics of working as a self-directed group, while we anticipate the companies will benefit from the skills-set the students have acquired to date as part of their academic course of study.”
